Dr. Nelson graduated with distinction from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in both Speech and Hearing Science and Linguistics.  He obtained his Doctorate in Audiology the University of North Texas.  Dr. Nelson joined his father, Dr. R. David Nelson and his sister, Dr. Grange, in their audiology practice when he returned home to Iowa.  

He is a fellow of the Academy of Doctors of Audiology, a member of the Iowa Hearing 

“Communication is so important in terms of being happy,” says Chuck.  “I want people to be able to hear better and be part of what’s going on, so they can enjoy the simple things in life.”  When working with patients, one of the most important things to Chuck is “to match the person’s hearing loss to the best products to improve it, while having their financial consideration in mind.”  

Chuck lives in Fairmont, MN with his wife.  They have two adult children.  Chuck is an active member in Early Riser Kiwanis and is a biking and kayaking enthusiast.

Chuck has been a part of Hearing Health Centers for over 25 years.  He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Science and Education from Mankato State University.  He is a Licensed Hearing Instrument Specialist and is board certified in hearing instrument science.  He has been a member of the Minnesota Hearing Healthcare Providers Association for 25 years and has served on its board for over 3 years.

Her main areas of interest include adult and pediatric diagnostic testing and hearing instrument solutions. Tracy’s favorite part of her work is being able to spend the time with each patient to really get to know about their daily life, how their hearing impairment is affecting them and then matching up what hearing aid is going to best suit their needs. 

Tracy is originally from Radcliffe, Iowa and currently lives in LeMars with her husband and two daughters.  She is active at her daughters’ school in the Parent-Teacher Organization and enjoys serving on her church’s Administrative Council.

Desirae has been part of the team at Hearing Health Centers since 2004.  She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Communicative Disorders and her Masters in Audiology from the University of South Dakota.  She has a Certificate of Clinical Competency in Audiology from the American Speech/Language & Hearing Association and is a member of both the American and South Dakota Speech/Language Hearing Association. 


Desirae began taking courses in college for Speech Pathology.  After taking a class on

Association and a member of the Tinnitus Practitioners Association.  He works closely with primary care physicians to ensure that any hearing related issues are managed medically in addition to rehabilitation.  Dr. Nelson specializes in the latest technological advancements in hearing assessment and rehabilitation and is committed to helping people hear by educating them on available solutions to their hearing needs.  


Dr. Nelson is originally from Ruthven, IA and now lives in Spencer with his wife and two young children.  In his free time he enjoys being very active in his church and loves playing his guitar in the church band.

hearing, she realized that helping people hear better was really what she was passionate about.    What does Desirae like best about working with her patients?  “I really feel like I’m able to make a difference in their lives.  I love how flexible hearing aids have become and how I can adjust the aids as my patients needs change,” she reports.  Our patients appreciate the time Desirae takes to educate them about their hearing loss and what treatment options would work best for them.

Desirae was born and raised in Colome, SD.  After completing her education, she moved back to her hometown with her husband.  She is a busy mother of three young children.

Dr. Nelson grew up in Milford, IA, earned his Bachelor's Degree from Augustana, his Master’s Degree from The University of Iowa and his Doctorate in Audiology from the Arizona School of Health Sciences. He began his career helping patients with communicative disorders by working as a teacher of the deaf over 50 years ago. In 1976 he founded Nelson Hearing Aid Service, which has grown to include five different clinics in three states. Dr. Nelson has served as President of the Iowa Association of Hearing Health Professionals, was a founding member of Hearing Aid Management Systems 

CATHERINE NELSON GRANGE, AU.D.,
DOCTOR OF AUDIOLOGY


Spencer, IA and Worthington, MN Clinics
Dr. Grange graduated with honors from the University of Iowa with her Bachelor’s Degree in both Speech and Hearing Science and Spanish.  She obtained her Doctorate in Audiology from the Arizona School of Health Sciences.   Dr. Grange joined her father, Dr. R. David Nelson and her brother, Dr. Paul Nelson in their audiology practice when she returned home to Iowa.


She is a fellow of the Academy of Doctors of Audiology, a member of the Iowa Hearing Association and a member of the Tinnitus Practitioners Association.  As a Board Certified Doctor of Audiology, she works closely with family physicians and internists as a consultant providing evaluations and hearing services to their patients.  She specializes in tinnitus, commonly known as ringing in the ears.  She enjoys working with patients of all ages, but has a soft spot for her pediatric patients.  She fit her youngest patient with hearing aids at just six weeks of age! 

Dr. Grange is originally from Ruthven, IA and now lives in Spencer with her husband and two young children.  In her free time she enjoys playing the piano, singing and hosting large family dinners for her extended family. 

Karen E. Marlow
Audiology Assistant
Licensed Hearing Instrument Specialist (Iowa)


Karen Marlow is an Iowa native who grew up in Bancroft, IA.  She graduated from Iowa Lakes Community College with a degree in Accounting and has had extensive training in Medical Billing and Coding.  Karen is a Licensed Hearing Instrument Specialist in the state of Iowa and is a member of the International Hearing Society.  She is also an Audiology Assistant in the state of Minnesota. 

“The ability to hear affects every aspect of our life and helping people improve their daily life is very rewarding,” says Karen.  “I enjoy working with the hearing impaired because I meet so many interesting people.”

Outside of work, Karen enjoys spending time with her adult daughter and grandson.  Family dinners, playing at the park and movie nights fill up her spare time.

and was a longtime member of the Academy of Doctors of Audiology. Dr. Nelson has served as President of the Iowa Association of Hearing Health Professionals, was a founding member of Hearing Aid Management Systems and was a longtime member of the Academy of Doctors of Audiology. Dr. Nelson is now retired, but very much enjoys stopping into the office hoping to see and visit with his former patients. Dr. Nelson devoted over 50 years of his life working with the deaf and hard of hearing. He lives with his wife, Julie, in Ruthven, Iowa. He has four adult children and many grandchildren. His large garden, apple orchard and his guitar keep him busy.

Nicole K. Bartels
Audiology Assistant


Nicole Bartels is a Worthington, MN native who grew up in Spirit Lake, IA.  She earned her Medical Laboratory Technician’s degree from Minnesota West College and is also certified as a Phlebotomy Technician.  Nicole began as a Patient Care Coordinator in our clinic in 2007 and became an Audiology Assistant in 2016.  She performs in-office repairs and hearing aid cleaning.  She helps troubleshoot any issues with hearing aids, educates patients on Assistive Listening Devices and oversees our entire Worthington clinic.  Her favorite part of her job?  “I love getting to work with people and making a positive difference in their life.”

Nicole is a devoted mother to her son, Cole.  She is very busy with family activities and in her spare time she loves to read, do crafts and go to auctions.
